Roadtrip: FestiVAL 2010!

April 26th, 2010 by Rick Disco

festiVAL

The dirtyoldDisco got invited to play at FestiVAL 2010 in a small town called Val in Mpumlanga… We made a road trip out of it… here is the story…

Val
It’s really small, even on a map!

I rolled through to Game to get a nifty little tent (they were having a special… it was fate), packed my stuff and loaded up the gear into T-Bones car…On the way to Caryn Paryn’s flat we got to see some Eugene Terror respect art outside the University of Pretoria…

Bravo Pizzeria!

We got Caryn, picked up some Bravo’s pizza (it’s the shiz niz… find it on South Street, Hatfield, Pretoria) and finally made it onto the highway. Check out the shenanigans after the jump!

dirtyoldDisco and HAEZER… Rocking at the Woods!

April 26th, 2010 by Rick Disco

dirtyoldDisco!

Our buddy Eben, more commonly known as HAEZER rolled up country to do a bit of a tour before he heads off to Europe. T-Bone and I got to play as the dirtyoldDisco a bit before HAEZER at the Woods in JHB. The gig rocked (Gig details here)! We played hard, HAEZER played harder… and the crowed loved it! Thanks to Caryn Paryn for the cell phone camera snaps of us in action :)

Party Boosh!

January 28th, 2010 by Rick Disco

dirtyoldDisco

dirtyoldman a.k.a. T-baggins and I finally got our act together and recorded a proper live mix to showcase our sets as the dirtyoldDisco. I think it’s awesome, that’s why we did did it, and we did it well. Now we wait to see who books us for shows… with two potential shows in February it’s looking good so far :)

Caryn Paryn designed our logo, she designed the cover for us to print, fold and fill with CDs. She is talented, they look awesome! We folded like 60 of them, it took a long time. When they are full of CD’s Ill put up some pics!

Grab the mix below, go visit our lonely blog, ask people to book us for shows, book us for shows, become a fan on Facebook and then tell us what you think! You can also download the CD cover for the mix and the folding instructions to make your own!

dirtyoldDisco – Bon Jovi Friday Mix - Just over an hour and only 89MB of awesome electro!

Blah, blah, blah…

October 20th, 2009 by Rick Disco

ACE!
Tjoppies (a.k.a Nico) (right), Andrew MoHawk (left) and I (centre)… being badass (once again)!

Study, study, study, work, study, Bloemfontein (punk as fuck), driving home, study, study, study, study, study, work, players… that’s pretty much been my last couple of weeks. Test week at varsity is over, exams are around the corner, and I seem to have a work ethic. Weird.

Nearly There!
Nearly There!

The drive to Bloemfontein on Saturday 3 October was about as exciting as the drive back to Pretoria on Sunday 4 October. Actually the drive back was more fun as we played some good ‘ol games of “I spy with my little eye” and some others I can’t remember off hand. The “festival” that we made the trip for was dusty, filled with punks and was actually everything I had hoped for. Nico and the team from Libery Valance rocked out… quickly, but rocked out none the less. Lungs filled with dust and drizzle, my homie MC was kind enough to “show us around” and took us to the Mystic Boer… hilarity ensued, pizza was eaten and smack was spoken. Good times.

Image taken from here!

The second grand thing that has happened to me has been a sudden new found love of Tom Collins’. Greatest drink ever! I mixed some up at T-Bones braai on Saturday. They were enjoyed, too much and no one took photos for you to see. As a consolation prize, I managed to take this great snap of a nasty bug that was running around that night.

Fokken Prawn
Pretty gross!

I have also taken the liberty of sharing the Tom Collins recipe I got off of Wikipedia:

Tom Collins IBA Official Cocktail

Type: Mixed drink
Primary alcohol by volume: Gin
Served: On the rocks; poured over ice
Standard garnish: orange, cherry, or lime
Standard drinkware: Collins

IBA specified ingredients:

  • 2 parts gin
  • 1 part freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • drizzle of sugar syrup
  • chilled carbonated water to taste

Preparation: Mix the gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup in a tall glass with ice, top up with soda water, garnish and serve.

Drink it!

Curry Noodle!

I’ve been eating loads of these awesome noodles. Go buy them, they rock. The Chinese shop where my tofu comes from sells them (Yat Kee Chinese Supermarket, Maroelana Centre, 27 Maroelana Street, Hazelwood). Add a little ginger to the mix as well for maximum awesomeness.

Thats all for now,
Rick Disco, over and out

dirtyoldman, Andrew Mohawk, Kid Caryn and Rick Disco
dirtyoldman, Andrew Mohawk, Caryn Paryn and I

Dirtyoldman and I have been bringing the chop back to the clubs the last month, playing as the banging electro duo “dirtyoldDisco”! It has been totally awesome to see how our hard hitting style of electro gets the floor asking for more! I’ve put up some photos from the last three shows we played. Thanks to all the people that took them, you know who you are :)
